World Autism Awareness Day

On World Autism Awareness Day, attention is renewed to the importance of early diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), given its significant impact on improving intervention and the quality of life of children.

In this context, the role of artificial intelligence in early detection stands out, as it can analyze subtle indicators that are difficult to observe through traditional methods, such as patterns of visual interaction, response to sound and to one’s name, emotional expression, and children’s behaviors through video and daily data.

However, it is important to note the limitations: artificial intelligence is not an independent diagnostic tool. Rather, it supports early screening and helps direct cases for clinical evaluation by specialists.

Hence comes the importance of early diagnosis and intervention, which contribute to improving children’s communication and adaptive skills and reducing developmental gaps.

The International Health Organization (IHO) also emphasizes the need to integrate early screening tools into primary care, strengthen diagnostic and rehabilitation services, support families, raise awareness, and combat stigma. It also stresses the importance of monitoring a child’s development from an early stage, observing communication and interaction, and seeking specialist consultation when concerns arise to ensure early intervention and better outcomes.
